Douglas Brown, ASA, MAAA

As a founding partner of Trilogy Actuarial Solutions, I collaborate with insurance companies and marketing organizations to develop compelling life insurance and annuity products and impactful business plans. I sincerely believe in the value of life insurance and annuity products and aspire to meet someone who is covered by a product that I helped to develop every time I leave my house.

Before starting Trilogy Actuarial Solutions, I spent fifteen years developing life insurance and annuity products for individual insurance companies and another eight years as a consulting actuary where I acted as both the appointed and illustration actuary for several companies and expanded my scope to include valuation, financial reporting, and management consulting.

As a young actuary working in product development, I came to embrace the motto, "surprise only the competition." This simple statement encapsulates a lot of what I think is essential to develop and launch successful products – good communication and teamwork.

I take great pride in the unique products that I helped to develop. In my view, the most successful products are those that meet the needs of all stakeholders (customers, field force, home office employees, and the bottom line). Getting to know all parties and crafting solutions to conflicting objectives is one of the things that I have enjoyed the most about my chosen career path.

I believe in working to create the future that you desire. If you do not start with a captivating vision of the future, you will never be able to chart a course. This view defines my approach to everything that I do. I am not afraid to provide opinions regarding complex issues and champion these opinions to auditors, regulators, and others.

I have a curious personality and I am constantly seeking to expand my knowledge and understanding of the world. In college, this curiosity drove me to study the natural sciences (I have a degree in Botany and I helped to conduct a mortality study of Yellowstone grizzly bears). In my current life, this curiosity is manifested in my interest in freshwater aquaria, travel, and fine cooking.

I am also a devoted husband and proud father of two strong, intelligent, and creative daughters. Their belief in me has strengthened my resolve in more than one difficult situation.
